Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive form of surgery. Our surgeons utilize the da Vinci surgical system, which is —the most advanced surgical robot in the world. The robot allows surgery to be performed utilizing miniaturized surgical instruments, which fit through quarter-inch incisions instead of operating with large incisions. Since these procedures are performed through very small incisions, patients experience a number of benefits compared to open surgery, including:

  • Less postoperative pain and reduction in need for pain medication
  • Quicker return to tolerating a diet
  • Shortened hospital stay
  • Earlier return to daily activities
  • Improved cosmetic results
  • Less injury to the nerves in the pelvis that control sexual function and bladder function
  • Excellent clinical outcomes for cancer control
  • More sphincter-sparing techniques especially in males and obese patients thus avoiding a permanent colostomy
  • Less blood loss

The Da Vinci robot is designed with instruments that are attached to robotic arms providing our surgeons with superior range of motion and exacting precision. The robot has a magnified 3-D, high definition camera that guides the surgeon throughout the procedure.

The surgeon has a 3-D view of the operating site, which is far superior to what the human eye can provide on its own. The robot contains a console with a camera in the operating room, allowing the surgeon to control all of the instruments of the robot. The fingers of the surgeon are placed on the master controls providing total control of the da Vinci’s four arms, while looking into the high-definition, stereoscopic monitor. This places your surgeon inside the patient and provides far greater precision.

Each movement the surgeon makes utilizing the master controls are precisely replicated by the Da Vinci robot. There is minimal surgeon fatigue because the surgeon’s eyes and hands are always perfectly aligned with their view of the surgical site.

Robotic surgery is providing our surgeons with unprecedented control in a minimally invasive environment. Our practice is utilizing these technology advances and performing a growing number of surgical procedures benefiting our patients with less trauma on the body, faster recovery times and minimal scarring.
